| Abstract | Organisations and individuals migrating to free software have keenly felt the need for a non- proprietary accounting software. Spreadsheets are versatile, but they have limitations. When it comes to inventory control linked to billing, tracking of spare parts and other real-time requirements of a retail or manufacturing nature, a more effective solution is needed. GNUKhata seeks to fill this space. Originally developed for Comet Media Foundation, the software, under GPL , has taken the shape of an elegant comprehensive accounting software. It aims to serve both as a web based client and a traditional desktop user interface application. Initiated by Krishnakant Mane and Anusha Kadambala, GNUKhata has been developed by hackers, accountants and a community of voluntary contributors. Now at a beta stage, GNUKhata's creators look forward to feedback and suggestions for possible additional features which would help the team to deploy the software at a professional level. |
