Mishra Impossible

He’s a man with a mission some people would think impossible. He’s riding his motorcycle into your campus street. His sight is trained on you. We ask him nine questions on how and why he’s gonna get you. Meet Gaurav Mishra. He’s the man with the golden gnu.

Gaurav Mishra

Q: What motivates you to spend time, energy, and petrol for freed.in?
A:My belief in youth power and the pureness of the FOSS movement, If we
have to be big, this is the only way.

Q: How do you define your role and your goals for freed.in?
A: I am responsible for maximising the opportunities for students , so
that they can be a part of the wonderful world called FOSS.
At the end of freed.in , I want groups of students from colleges,
excited about the tux, giving me call late at nights, asking stupid
questions. And who knows we find another Mark Shuttleworth soon :)

Q. How do you wish to achieve your goals?
A: I am the bridge between the geeky and knowledgeable FOSS world, and
the hungry for knowledge youth world.

Q. How many people do you feel you will reach out to over these weeks?
A: In next three weeks, I plan to reach at least 1,000 people at a minimum,
putting my all energy for the noble cause.

Q. Since how long have you been using Gnu/Linux?
A: I am using GNU/Linux since seven years, since the time PCQuest magazine focussed on the Desktop market [with their famous distro, PCQLinux].

Q. Why do you wish other people should join the FOSS movement?
A: Human knowledge belongs to the human world, our rishis [ancient Indian sages] were
excellent scholars, but they committed a minor mistake by not truly
educating the masses. We need to bring out the knowledge to the world, if we want this world to be in peace.

Q. What do you do for your bread, butter, tamatar?
A: I am an occasional entrepreneur and started two small companies during
my college days, which are still running. Currently I am writing perl
scripts at Unitedvillages for my living.

Q: What is your dream for FOSS in india?
A: I see India self-sustain itself in the software market in the next few years, people
using their PCs in their local language, engineers *Really* writing
their own protocols as their projects, and sharing knowledge among
themselves. This is what I call FOSS.

Q: What is the response You’ve got so far for your outreach drive?
A: Students want to be a part of it even though there is a learning curve and
a fear towards the word ‘Linux’. We have got pretty good numbers of
registrations so far. Hope to see some good number of people at
freed.in
